According to Chester, their 1st tour was the
hardest
because they had a tour manager and were on an RV, with no crew. The band had to load
everything and take turns driving. Their RV broke down a couple of times as well.
When Linkin Park started touring they had different bass players then hired
a bass player named Scott who was/is not part of the band. Phoenix is a part of
the band.
Brad had the most incredible rush/memorable concert experience
at Roseland ballroom in NY because there were probably 4,000
people packed into a club and the entire crowd was reacting to their music.
The first tour linkin park was on was with "the union underground."
The guys from the union underground decided it would be really funny
to play pranks on linkin park and Systematic. They didn't really do
anything to linkin park
but they put live chickens on systematic's stage, and the chickens
got caught in the lights and were pooping on the drums, the guitarist
couldn't even move anywhere cause there were chickens all over his
feet. so linkin park played after systematic and in preparation for
their prank - somebody in linkin park "who wouldn't ever usually do
something like this" decided to defecate into a trash bag, and if
anything at all happened to lp on stage, that person was going to
throw it on union underground.
Apparently word got around that you shouldn't mess with linkin park.
Luckily lp ended up leaving the bag of feces.
Linkin Park toured with Papa Roach in December and lp
called them "the broken home boys" and papa roach called
lp "linkin park rangers"
On Lp's Street Soldier Headliner tour here's stuff they
were planning on doing but didn't:
They were supposed to play some covers. Phoenix wanted
to do a Fiona Apple song but he didn't think they could
pull off the piano parts.
Mr. Hahn was supposed to have some time to show off his
skills, which I think they did do at a few shows...? but then stopped.
When Lp were on Tour with the Kottonmouth Kings, Corporate Avenger and Rehab,
Mike said that it was funny because Rehab had a lot of vulgarity in their set,
Corporate Avenger had a song called 'The Bible Is Bullshit' and the Kottonmouth
Kings literally smoked a half a pound of weed on stage every night. The memorable
experience that Mike had was going and playing downtown Disney World in Orlando
with these groups. The Mickey Mouse police came and tried to arrest people.
On May 7, 2001 while Lp was doing their concert in Sydney, Australia, the stage
floor collapsed. The only thing that saved Lp from collapsing in the floor was the
carpet.
At the 6-12-01 Ozzfest in Indianapolis, IN
Linkin Park dressed up as 80's Rock Stars complete
w/leather pants, bandanas, studs, etc. This was their
way of dealing with some rough ROCK crowds the first couple shows.
At the 7-28-01 Ozzfest in Charlotte, North Carolina, Chester
invaded the stage during Papa Roach's set as 'Super-Chester'.
He was wearing a towel as a cape and a sleeping/water mask covering
his eyes. This took place on Coby Dick's birthday. Of course both
Papa Roach and the audience were really amused by this, lol.
Coby Dick from Papa Roach had a habit of showing up on stage
during Lp's sets at Ozzfest/Off-fest every so often as well.
At the 8-9-01 Big Day Off at Jones Beach, NY, Chester
came out during Disturbed's set and sang the Pantera
song 'Walk' with Disturbed. Disturbed did this song at
other Ozzfest/Off-fest dates as well so I'm sure Chester
also sang along at some other shows w/ them as well -not all, though.
During the Projekt Revolution tour in Fort Worth, TX
(2-17-02), during the song 'It's Goin Down' someone threw a
small fire cracker into the moshpit. Obviously a stupid and
dangerous thing to do, Linkin Park had to stop the show and
reprimand the individual. Mike cursed more then he ever had
done in a live show before.
On the last date of Linkin Park's European tour, Linkin Park
played a prank on the Deftones by replacing their water with
vodka. This is quite amusing and can be viewed on the Frat Party at
the Pankake Festival Dvd.
At the Smokeout Festival 2002 (I believe),
Joe Hahn joined Pharoahe Monch, on the main stage,
for a short set.
Projekt Revolution 2003 highlights - Xzibit joined Linkin
Park onstage for "Nobody's Listening" and even added his own
little rap into it. There was also a guy break dancing during
the song. Also at about the Tucson, Az show Joe and Brad began
trading places - Joe would take over Brad's guitar while Brad
went to the turntables. They also played A.06.
D12 and Eminem showed up at the the Projekt Revolution 2002 tour
date in Detroit. They rapped a little and later came out to help
with "One Step Closer".
Lp's set for the Summer Sanitarium Tour (2003) consisted
of the Meteora artwork (by Delta, Lp) as a background.
There were also big screens above the stage that showed parts of
their videos during songs as well as closeups of the band,
themselves. There were also stairs leading to a high rise
in the center/back of the stage.
